Major Assignment #2: Visual / Spatial Rhetorical Analysis

Major Assignment #2: Visual / Spatial Rhetorical Analysis

For this project you will complete an analysis (either visual or spatial) of a space, place, or text. Your analysis will consider how the space, place, or text have been constructed and is functioning to construct gender or in response to gender constructions.

This analysis will help you work through how we interpret gender visually and spatially. You will consider the purpose of the space, place, or text and the values they convey to their audience. Essentially, you will be thinking about how non alphabetic (or not solely alphabetic) rhetorics are functioning in gendered ways around you. Additionally, you will draw from texts we’ve read to support your claims.

  • Choose what you will be analyzing
  • Consider the 2-4 main points that demonstrate how this space, place, or text is functioning.
  • Consider why these points are significant and what can be learned from them?
  • Write an overarching argument (thesis statement) that states concisely bullet points 2 and 3 above.

  • The genre is up to you
